Answers to Your Common Boudoir Questions
Hey there, I’m Argentina Leyva, Photographer and Owner of Art of Seduction. I call my boudoir photoshoots “The Ultimate Confidence Booster – Every Mature Woman Must TRY”.
For most of the women, I work with this is their first experience with boudoir photography and for some their first experience having their own solo photoshoot. Because of that I know there is an investment and experience you want to research, learn more about and find a studio that’s the right fit for your boudoir vision.
I’ve put together a list of SEVEN of the most common questions I get about boudoir photography. If you want to learn more about working together I’ve included more details in the answer to question #7!
Let’s dive into your common boudoir questions…
Is there an ideal time or age to do a boudoir photoshoot?
In short, no. I mainly work with women in their 40s, 50s and 60’s as for many women that’s a time of reinvention, reimagining their look and stepping into the next phase of their life. I’ve photographed women also in their 20’s, 30’s and 70’s.
Timing and age matter WAY less than your intention. If you’re looking for an experience that will allow you to change the way you see and feel about yourself. If you’re looking to boost your self-esteem and celebrate the woman you’ve become. If you’re looking to do something special for yourself and have a memory of it forever. Then an Art of Seduction Boudoir Photoshoot is perfect for you.
Is boudoir mostly for married women?
NOPE. It’s a common misconception that the only reason women have boudoir photographs taken is it’s a gift for their partner. I’ve worked with plenty of single women (I’ve had many boudoir photoshoots while single myself), women who’ve been divorced, women who are single on purpose or women who are single but dating or looking.
I actually respectfully discourage women from doing a boudoir photoshoot JUST for their partner (you can read more about why over here). I believe they should view the experience as a gift to themselves first and then if they want to share their photos with someone as a gift or surprise, consider that the icing on the cake.
What if I struggle with the way my body looks?
Let me start by saying I get how you feel. I only started to learn ways to love my body when I was 38 and had my very first boudoir photoshoot where I was IN FRONT of the camera. Now at 50, I continue to practice to love and look at my body from a place of admiration and gratitude.
It takes practice and ALMOST every single one of the women who’s walked into my studio has felt the same way. Almost no one that signs up to do a boudoir photoshoot (that I’ve worked with anyway) hasn’t struggled with body image at one time or another
The beautiful thing about our boudoir experiences is they give women the opportunity to see themselves in a new way, to look at their body from a different perspective and to develop a new and loving relationship with their body. That’s one of the 6 surprising secrets of our boudoir photography. Click here to read the other 6!
I’m uncomfortable dressing sexy or wearing lingerie, is boudoir still for me?
Of course! My studios are set up to be private and comfortable because I know that for many women wearing lingerie (aka barely wearing anything) isn’t comfortable.
I’ve been in front of the camera myself and I know how vulnerable it can feel, which is why I’m there with you each step of the way, demonstrating the poses, helping you relax and enjoy the experience.
You also have total control over what you wear. I’ve photographed women in sports jerseys and their underwear or with an oversized white collared shirt or even in different cosplay costumes. I also have a number of fun props *did someone say “feather boa”* that clients get to use as well.
You also have total control over whether you give me permission to share your photos on social media or my website OR NOT.
Will boudoir work for my body type?
100% YES! I’ve worked with over 3,000 women in the last decade, photographing women (including Trans Women) from ages 25-70 and sizes 0-30 and women with different physical disabilities.
In the last decade, I’ve developed a signature set of poses, so you can be confident in knowing my photography will capture your unique beauty!
What are the reasons why a boudoir photoshoot might not be a good fit?
A boudoir photoshoot is meant to be an empowering experience and it’s an investment in yourself. Because of that, there are 3 main reasons why I believe boudoir might not be a fit for some. Click here to read the blog post (3-minute read) I wrote on that exact topic.
What’s included in your boudoir photoshoots?
For my signature confidence boosting boudoir photoshoots that happen in my studios in Chicago and Austin Texas, professional hair and makeup are included in the session along with your photoshoot. Prior to your session, I’m available to offer you tips and support for choosing and finding your outfit and answer any questions you have leading up to the day of your shoot.
I also offer Bolder Beyond photoshoots + retreats in Cozumel, Bali and Fiji and what’s included in those retreats varies by location. Our next Bolder Beyond Retreat in Cozumel takes place November 26-30, 2021 and our next Fiji retreat takes place on March 10-19, 2022.
Each of these retreats includes having your makeup professionally done, boudoir-style photographs of you on the beach and enjoyment and use of the resort we’re staying at.
